| Sleep to Wake Overview |
|
Sleep to Wake is a solo show assembled from the works of Robert Browning, especially the "Dramatic Monologues," and from the letters that passed between the poet and Elizabeth Barrett, who was to become his wife. It is a one-man show designed for portability, which can be performed in almost any venue from a private home, to a lecture hall, to a large legitimate theatre. There is a full-length version, running about two and a quarter hours, and a one-act version that comes in at about seventy minutes. Dennis Parks, the president of the San Francisco Browning Society, says: "...one of the Bay Area's finest classical actors, Julian Lopez-Morillas has spectacularly revived the namesake of [our] own 107-year-old society. Lopez-Morillas vividly encompasses Browning's character, poetry, spirituality and passions... This is a unique and sophisticated performance not to be missed." |
